Call it what you want... career breaks are real, most of us will have one at some point in our work life, and they shouldn’t be something we feel we need to hide.

If you’ve taken time out and want to get back in, here’s how to show it on your CV without shame:

🛠 Frame it as experience
What did you learn? What skills did you use? Managing a house, a budget, a crisis; it all counts.

🎯 Focus on relevance
You don’t need to explain everything. Highlight what’s transferable to the job you want.

💬 Be honest, not apologetic
There’s no need to justify your humanity.

Women step out of the workforce for all sorts of reasons.

That doesn’t make you less capable. It makes you more resilient.

Have you taken a career break at all? Let us know in the comments.
Here’s a fun one. Or maybe not so fun.

👷‍♀️ Ever rocked up to site in full PPE and still been asked if you were "lost"?

Or told you “scrub up well” when you turned up to a client meeting in something other than steel toe caps?

Women in this industry get judged on what we wear before people ask what we know.

And no matter what we choose, someone’s got something to say.

🦺 Too practical?
🩱 Too feminine?
🖤 Too plain?
🧣 Too “extra”?

It’s exhausting.

This is your space to share your uniform stories; good, bad, or just ridiculous.

What do you actually wear to work? And how much does it affect how you’re treated?

We talk a lot about “rising stars” and “futu We talk a lot about “rising stars” and “future leaders” in this industry.

But let’s not forget the women keeping the day-to-day running like clockwork.

The ones running the picker.

The ones logging every load.

The ones getting up at 5am, loading the yard, training the newbies, handling the scrap, fixing the system, sorting the stockpile.

No spotlight. No LinkedIn posts. Just getting the job done.

👊 Today’s for them.

Tag a woman you work with who deserves more recognition.

The ones who wear gloves, hi-vis, and sometimes a hard hat.

The ones who get on with it. And don’t ask for credit.

But deserve it.

🗣️ Between all the acronyms, nicknames, codes and regional slang it’s no wonder newcomers get confused.

So let’s open the dictionary...

📘 What scrap/recycling slang still catches you off guard?

📘 Or what was the first bit of industry jargon you ever learned?

Drop your favourite terms in the comments we’ll compile them into the first Unofficial Women in Recycling Industry Slang Guide 👀

If we want to see more women thriving in recycling and metals, we need stronger networks.

Deeper connections.

More deals done with and between women.

That’s what this night is all about.
